0 replies) Posted At 23:06:41 03/31/2002 Two different questions. My answers as follows: A) It would seem that when DreamWorks was elaborating their remake movie project, an animated TV series spinoff was contemplated. To the best of my knowledge, this project appears to be dead. B) When the Deluxe version of the DVD of the 1960 Pal movie was being conceived, it had been proposed that a reading of the original novel by Alan Young be included on a CD as a bonus. Clyde Lucas, who produced the "Journey Back" documentary, was probably behind this idea because for many months afterwards, he had been announcing such a CD on his website as being "soon available". This announcement, however, was removed recently so it would appear the project was dropped. |

0 replies) Posted At 08:22:29 04/01/2002 When I was down in New Zealand I read a sci fi mag that Mr. Young HAD recorded the HG Wells Book and that the Producers decided instead of having it as a CD They were going to do a feature, might be stop motion. can't remember, one Producer was a friend of Gene Warren Sr and it was going to be dedicated to him, Mr. Pal & Wah Chang. I think it's in Production in the P Rim |

0 replies) Posted At 11:02:14 04/01/2002 The rumor indeed was that Alan Young had already done the recording and, right until very recently, the CD was being announced as a soon-to-be-available product on the "7th Voyage" website. I had not heard of a project to use this recording in an animated feature. If that is correct, it could indeed be quite interesting. However, there is nothing like going straight to the source to get a clear answer, and our good friend Don may be able to clear up the matter within the next two weeks... |

Re: ALAN YOUNG NEW TM ANIMATED FEATURE? (Currently
0 replies) Posted At 15:21:04 04/01/2002 This is the exact text which appeared on the "7th Voyage Productions" website until a few weeks ago: "... NOT AVAILABLE ANYWHERE ELSE!!" ALAN YOUNG reads HG WELLS "THE TIME MACHINE" as the Character "Philby" from the Classic Book. Available on CD or Audio Cassette ..." Confusing because a notice after the above text requested visitors to leave their email address to be advised of its availability. So, in spite of the description, it seems it was NOT available. Ah, by the way Clyde, that's "Filby" ! |

0 replies) Posted At 18:52:45 04/01/2002 Alan did do the reading of Time Machine which was supposed to be included with the Deluxe DVD release. For what ever reason it was not, neither was the set of B&W stills which were originally advertised. I just heard from Alan, he is not aware of his recording being used for anything and is not aware of any animated series. In fact he said he had forgotten having even done the reading. Also heard that DreamWorks/ Warner is not contemplating an animated feature either. |

0 replies) Posted At 21:33:46 04/01/2002 Ted... Perhaps you would help us by supplying more concrete evidence. Seems strange that the narrator himself (Alan Young) knows nothing about it ! |

0 replies) Posted At 22:02:26 04/01/2002 Someone may be doing something with the CD but Alan is not involved, this is from Alan himself. I'm sure Alan would like to know if his material is being used. Any information would be appreciated, since if it is being used he should get paid for it. |

0 replies) Posted At 03:39:14 04/02/2002 And there you have it, Ted... looks as though your sources are the ones who are misinformed! If Mr. Young knows nothing of the project then why try to convince everyone of its supposed existence? Or, does this particular implication seem familiar in some way to the idea of the 'Time Machine' itself? |

Re: ALAN YOUNG NEW TM ANIMATED FEATURE? (Currently
0 replies) Posted At 10:13:36 04/02/2002 I think you've got something there, Bruce ! Ted's information is accurate, but this production is taking place in another timeline !!! Ted may have retrieved this information while in a time warp during his stay in New Zealand at which time he had access to a timeline where such a production is indeed going ahead. This is why the "Alan Young" from OUR timeline is unaware of the project. Therefore we should try and get in touch with the "Alan Young" from the OTHER timeline. Don, are you up to this ? Of course I may be completely wrong here. |

Re: ALAN YOUNG NEW TM ANIMATED FEATURE? (Currently
0 replies) Posted At 13:27:16 04/02/2002 Ted, rumours are rumours ! If you heard it or read it, it does not mean it is accurate. If you cannot substantiate the information, then it remains an unsubstantiated rumour. You are not being "attacked", by any means. Quite the contrary, we have been trying to substantiate your claim and those of the two other people who appear to have heard a similar rumour. To do so, we went directly to the source. (There's nothing like firsthand information.) We asked Alan Young. Alan Young stated categorically that he is not involved in any such project. If it is being done, it is being done without his knowledge or authorization. |

Re: ALAN YOUNG NEW TM ANIMATED FEATURE? (Currently
0 replies) Posted At 17:55:23 04/02/2002 We haven't stopped the hunt, Ted. More than one people did hear the rumour, so it has to have a source somewhere. But that one "hand" you see is also the hand without which such a project cannot go forward. This is why we believe that if this was mentioned in an article, it may have merely been a project under consideration. It could not go into production without Mr. Young's approval and we know for sure that he has not been contacted to give his consent for his recording to be used in such a manner. However, any more information that you or anybody else can find as to the origin of the rumour would be most welcome. |

0 replies) Posted At 04:02:52 04/03/2002 Please don't feel as though you are being 'attacked' Ted... we welcome any info you can share and if there is a new audio version coming, I would be most intersted in hearing any factual-based reports that pertain to it!Since this is a site where we all can share such info, do you mind if I ask if you could identify your exact sources of information, in particular, the magazine you read the article in? Do they have a website where one can contact them? Thanks! |

Re: ALAN YOUNG NEW TM ANIMATED FEATURE? (Currently
0 replies) Posted At 13:37:51 04/07/2002 I just read all the posts here, If I may point out to Francois, Philby is the UK 1895 HG Wells book, since Mr. Young was reading the book maybe that is why Clyde used that name, not Filby as used by George Pal, even the Dreamworks film uses the name Philby. Which I think shows respect to HG Wells. |

Re: ALAN YOUNG NEW TM ANIMATED FEATURE? (Currently
0 replies) Posted At 09:08:23 04/08/2002 Gary, I would commend you on your scholarly observation – if only it were accurate ! "Filby" is indeed the way H.G. Wells spelled it. The name is written this way in the original manuscript. It is printed as such in the New Review serial of 1895. It is so in the Heinemann 1895 British edition and also in the Holt 1895 American edition. Likewise, it appears as such in the revised 1924 Atlantic edition. It might have helped if you had checked the facts – out of respect for H.G. Wells ! |
