Open Message to ALL.... This site is a very valuable medium for ALL of us fans of "The Time Machine" to exchange opinions, insights, and other knowledge among ourselves. I am a veritable newcomer to the postings so I do not KNOW most of any of you very well. But I must say we should all respect each other, attempt to learn from each other, and demonstrate a healthy open-minded approach to each other. RATHER than attack those who have a different point of view...USE the discussion ability to discuss & thrash out the ideas...maybe to help someone else see your point of view...or maybe even see the person has a better grasp on it that you had !! At the very least, respect each other's rights to their own opinions. I must commend Don Coleman for an informative interesting site which is constantly being added to....with the addition of him providing us this discussion board. The current "war" that seems to be waging betweem certain folks is in extremely poor taste. Mr. Lucas should realize that Don is not trying to do him harm...any mistakes that may have been on the site were surely errors or simply cases where he did not have better information. My suspicion is that 7th Voyage has not gotten yet to the point of promoting their film ventures so that little to nothing has yet been officially released. LET ALL OF US TRY TO CONTINUE THIS POSTING BOARD IN THE HEALTHY INFORMATIVE WAY INTENDED....REMEMBER, "H.G." did NOT LIKE WAR !!!! |

Posted At 19:12:32 05/04/2002 I would like to echo Mr. Macumber's post. I do not know what... if anything is going on between Mr. Coleman and Mr. Lucas...nor do I care. But I would like to add a comment or two. First up, the work of both of these gentlemen has been a tremendous resource for the preservation and dissemination of most of the existing information on the creation of George Pal's film "The Time Machine." We all know how much this film has touched the hearts of, and influenced, countless fans all over the world. But thanks to foresight, perseverance and determination reflected in Mr. Lucas' "Journey Back" documentary and Mr. Coleman's website, we can all share this fantastic wealth of information, derived from many sources, about our favorite film. Can you all imagine what a shame it would have been if this information was not culled from the memories of Mr. Pal, Mr. Warren, Mr. Chang and others? Secondly, as a documentary producer (and part time model maker and replica builder,) I'll be the first to admit that I, and I think I can safely assume all of us...do occasionally make mistakes. Pointing fingers at these mistakes to criticize them is definitely not a constructive process, but I must also add that knowing that you've made a mistake can be an extremely valuable educational tool. I have learned much from Don and Clyde... and many other talented people who have visited this website, and I thank you all. What I don't want to see happen, is the escalation of this type of criticism to the point where it affects, limits or censors the information of these resources. That said, let's stop the silliness and recognize the extreme value of what we have here...and go forward. We can work together and build on the foundation that Mr. Pal left us and create wonderful works from his ideas and visions that can be shared by all. |

Posted At 23:09:34 05/04/2002 Jim.... you have said what we all feel.....and it is, indeed, a message for us all to take to heart... Carl... again...well said! We all need to get along! Mr. Lucas has exposed himself as an individual who can not take constructive criticism at all, and, at the very least, learn a lesson from it! I have to admit that I have been a bit too hasty in some of my opinions of others in the past... and have tried to learn from my lack of better judgement. Mr. Lucas and Mr. Coleman both have their respective degree of expertise, but only one of them has shown that he is an emotionally controlled conversationalist through the various exchanges that we have seen posted here on his site. I have personally spoken by phone to Mr. Coleman, and have enjoyed the insights that we shared during that conversation! His devotion to this site is one born of admiration for the many different aspects of the 'Time Machine.'He is not the one who has blatantly tossed accusations and insults as Mr. Lucas has elected to do! While Lucas is nevertheless an individual who has, in his own way, contributed much to this genre, I find that his lashing out as a fellow fan and TM admirer is nothing short of a well-executed display of immaturity! Let us all try to conduct conversations for the better of Don Coleman's site! For what he has given to all of us...we owe him that! DON... to you, my friend, many continued years of success in preserving the legacy of H.G.Wells and his classic Time Machine! I thoroughly enjoyed our chat by phone and again, have benefitted immeasureably from your knowledge! Keep the lever forward to the FUTURE!!!! |
