I don't know what to say about o'l Bob that hasn't already been said by just about everyone who ever met him or even those that had never met him. He either rescued or provided sanctuary for countless movie props that would otherwise have been thrown away or destroyed. Bob was always a gracious host anytime anyone came to visit. On one visit, Walter Koenig and his wife arrived and we ordered so much pizza that the company called back to confirm "You ordered lots'a pizza?" My childhood dream came through when we first visited Bob and I got to not only see the time machine once again but to actually sit in it. I first saw the machine at M.G.M. studios in 1970 at the world famous M.G.M. auction by David Weisz. My contribution to Bob's collection is that I built the rocket pack and chest control panel for his Commando Cody figure. Bob had an original jacket and helmet he had got from Dave Sharp one of the stunt performers from the serials. In 1993 Bob got me involved with the production of "Time Machine: The Journey Back." At first I was asked to build a copy of the armillary sphere but later that was deleted. I did supply a console I had started building, a control lever and the walnut box the lever was placed into during the "sequel" sequence filmed with Rod Taylor, Alan Young, Whit Bissell and Robin sorry I don't recall his last name, played George in the sequel during the construction scenes. Rarely seen is Bob's second story. It's one large room with display cases lining the one wall and filled with toys from the 40's-60's and there was always a Marx play set on display. Bob will be dearly missed by all those who were ever privileged to meet him. |
Around 1991 my wife an I made a visit to Bob's basement, he had me put on Rod's smoking jacket and take the machine for a spin, it was the night we "fall back" so I actually got to travel back in time by one hour that night. That smile lasted a week. |
