2021 Updates to
The Time Machine Project

May 19, 2021

On May 25, 1959 principle photography began on George Pal's production of H.G. Wells' "The Time Machine" at M.G.M. studios in Culver City, California. Principle photography ended on July 1, 1959.

This year marks the 62nd anniversary of the filming. I've been wanting to do something to commemorate an anniversary of the film since 2009, the 50th anniversary. One thing I've noticed in my life, the older you get the faster time flies. So here we are at 62 years later. Toward the end of 2020 I stumbled onto a web site based in Paris, France. The site is essentially dedicated to the set photographer assigned to "The Time Machine". Even though his name was unknown to the creator of the web site.

I've been collecting photos, posters etc. on the film since I first saw it in 1960 at my local theater on it's first run. A photo on the web site had a question posed about it as to if this photo really was from the filming. I contacted the webmaster and informed him that the photo was indeed from the filming of "The Time Machine". This opened up a dialog between the two of us and I also knew the photographer's name, Frank Shugrue.

The webmaster, Christophe Canto and I have become good friends in just over a few months. Both of our collections have increased and questions regarding the production have been answered. As a result of our collaboration we both will be presenting the total of our set stills on our respective web sites.

Beginning on May 25, 2021 access to the stills will be available on my site. On each day the still for that day from 1959 will become available and each subsequent day until July 1, 2021. stills from May 25, 1959 will be available on May 25, 2021, stills from May 26, 1959 will be available on May 26, 2021 etc.

We do not have stills for every day of shooting, so some days may not have any added. I've provided a calendar so you can see which days will have new images.
