The Console

March 10. 2025

Started with a piece of 9" O.D. pvc drain pipe. Slot cut for the lever control.
Test fit of prototype end cap in styrene. Finished piece will be made in acrylic.
Holes drilled and upholstery tacks located.

The light bar which mounts on the top. Other bits in photo.
Light bar primed and test fit to console body.
Date display body cast in urethane resin.
Test fit of date display on console.
Mounted date display on console and used a drill in process to remove excess material.
Used jig saw to remove excess
Used a router with flush cut bit to trim and finish openings.
Used the date display as a template to cut the cover plate out of brass using a router and then files to get into the tight corners.
Cut a stencil with my Brother Scan N Cut machine, attached it to the brass plate, weeded out the letters and acid etched the lettering.
Black paint filled into the lettering.
Three plastic domes for the top lights, these may be replaced with glass if I can find some.
Used my 22 watt laser to cut the acrylic lenses for the date display. Printed the numbers on decal paper in reverse and adhered them to the back of the lenses.

Routed a rabbet in the display for the lenses to drop in flush.

More to come ...
